Pete Seeger was a singer/songwriter and social activist. He was an early member of The Weavers, notably on their recording of Good Night Irene which topped the charts for 13 weeks in 1950. He was blacklisted in the McCarthy Era. Her reemerged in the 1960's as a popular singer of protest music in support of disarmament, civil rights, workers rights, and the environment. His best known songs were Where Have All the Flowers Gone?", "If I Had a Hammer", "Kisses Sweeter Than Wine", "Turn Turn Turn", and "We Shall Overcome". He and his wife Toshi founded the sloop Clearwater, a floating ambassador for cleaning up the Hudson River.
